Senators head coach Paul MacLean said Friday there's no timetable to name a new captain after Daniel Alfredsson left the team to sign as a free agent with the Red Wings.

"We're going to go through a process," MacLean said, according to the Senators' website. "I've got to spend some time talking to the individuals, talking to (general manager) Bryan Murray, talking to my coaching staff.

The Bruins have signed GM Peter Chiarelli to a four-year contract extension through the 2017-18 season, according to an ESPN.com report on Thursday.

Chiarelli had one year remaining on his current deal.

Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo told TSN he had discussions with the NHLPA this offseason about voiding his contract with the team.

"I explored every possibility, and that was definitely one of them," Luongo told James Duthie in an interview that was shown on "SportsCentre" on Friday night. "And at that point there's different logistics into something like that and it's very complicated, but definitely it was something that I was looking at and ready to do if the opportunity came up."

"I was ready to walk away from it and sign somewhere else for lesser term and less money," Luongo said.

Jaromir Jagr posted a note on his official Facebook page on Tuesday in which he said he will likely hang up the skates at the conclusion of the 2013-14 season.

"It looks like it will be my last season, so I can't be too risky," Jagr wrote.

The Bruins announced Tuesday the promotion of Keith Gretzky to director of amateur scouting and the hiring of former Bruins forward P.J. Axelsson as a European amateur scout and Keith Sullivan as an amateur scout, according to an ESPN.com report.
